Ecostore

Malcolm and Melanie Rands started ecostore from their home in a permaculture eco-village in New Zealand in 1993. They had been using sustainable, organic gardening practices on their property for years and decided it was time to look into replacing some of the nasty chemicals they were using inside their home by producing healthier products, with no toxic or unnecessary chemicals.

They got expert help to start developing laundry products with a philosophy of ‘health first’ that still holds true today. If there’s any doubt about the safety of an ingredient for people’s health as well as the environment, a safer alternative must be found. ecostore’s unique focus on health has earned them a loyal customer following. Over the years many customers have written in saying their eczema, dermatitis, asthma and other allergies had improved or disappeared altogether from using their plant and mineral based products. As customer numbers grew, so did the number of carbon miles spent transporting products to and from Auckland, so in 2002, the Rands family moved to Auckland and set up a retail store and mail order centre. In 2005 ecostore expanded the range to include household cleaners, body care and baby care products. In 2006, ecostore launched into NZ supermarkets, followed by Australia in 2008 and in 2009, ecostore launched into the US.

Green chemistry is rapidly developing so the process of continuous improvement is ongoing. ecostore’s team of chemists continually review and refine product formulations as new science comes to hand. Their team are passionate and committed to continue the journey Malcolm and Melanie started 18 years ago.

Almost all ecostore products are made in their CarboNZero accredited factory in Auckland which is also ISO 14001 and Enviromark Diamond certified.
